a note from susan:

as i sit down to write something about this compilation, i am once again humbled and thankful, feeling a bit awkward - and blessed. blessed with good friends and even more blessed by the fact that many of them are such talented artists. words can't adequately express my thanks for their donations of these tracks to help me with my ongoing medical expenses. i am lucky enough to work for a wonderfully supportive company, goldenrod music, and to have health insurance through them. unfortunately, i did not have the resources to cover the prescription and medical expenses that aren't covered. (okay, so i'm thinking it, but i won't go into a diatribe about our health care system here!)

these past few years have been definitely an adventure -- for those of you who don't know what's been happening, i got diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) on september 9th, 2009, had five week long courses of chemotherapy over the next five months (all done inpatient at ingham regional medical center in lansing) and underwent a bone marrow transplant at the university of michigan in march of 2010. i spent over 130 days in the hospital in the year following my diagnosis.

i am currently in remission and show no signs of the leukemia (she wrote knocking on wood), but do have chronic graft vs. host disease: my stem cell donor's t-cells aren't getting along all that well with my body. my immune system is way better than it was, but is still compromised. i've been a very healthy person most of my life, only occasionally taking ibuprofen, but i'm making up for it now! i take an anti-viral, an anti-fungal and an antibiotic twice a day, along with my immuno-suppressant/anti-rejection drugs and several drugs to lessen the symptoms of the GVHD. without insurance, one of the drugs i take costs more per month than my girlfriend paid for both of her last two vehicles combined! i can't leave home without my portable pharmacy, and doctors and pharmacists from lansing to ann arbor know my name (which i now think of as being "susan frazier 09/20/57"). it's a strange world!

thanks again to these fabulous musicians for their help. i'd also like to give an extra special thanks to alyson palmer of BETTY and kate peterson of nervous but excited for their leadership and work making this happen. please check out all of the tracks on this compilation and then go check out the rest of the artists' music. and then go see them live -- having been unable to go to concerts this past year and a half, i've realized how much live music feeds my soul and i guarantee that these artists' shows will feed yours as well.

as always, have a day most swell.

p.s. if you want to be included on my health update list, please send me your e-mail address to sfbootshealth@aol.com. to warn you ahead of time, there's lots of science stuff in my updates. i've learned way more than i ever wanted to about blood and transplants and such and i pass it on.
